The different versions are selectable from the game launcher. Trine Enchanted Edition is a remake of the original Trine with dazzling new visual effects and numerous gameplay improvements! Both Trine Enchanted Edition as well as the original Trine are included in the Enchanted Edition. The player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle: The Wizard is able to summon objects to help solve puzzles and create new ways to overcome obstacles, the Thief uses her agility and dead-on accuracy to swiftly surprise the monsters, and the Knight unleashes mayhem and physical destruction wherever he goes. The gameplay is based on fully interactive physics – each character’s different abilities help the player battle an army of undead and defeat hazardous contraptions. Set in a world of great castles and strange machinery, three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil. So if you haven't tried - Trine is a really nice, light game that is not hard for the sake of being hard and does many things right in terms of gameplay mechanics.Trine is a fantasy action game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. This means you can complete the level and when there are collectibles missing, you can just restart the level and don't have to complete it to make the rest of the pickups count. The nice thing is that collecting an item is permanent - the XP potion at the start of the level has to be picked up only once. You collect XP from items in the level and enemies, as well as two secrets in each level. This sort of Indiana Jones shenanigans is never required, though. You can stick boxes onto spikes and they stay there, but you can also - if you can pull it off - conjure a box over a chasm and while it is falling, jump on it and jump across. The physics engine strikes a good balance between realism and playability. You can get creative, which becomes easier as you progress through the game - you unlock more skills, which you can use when you go back to earlier levels. The puzzles are not hard and there is no timed element like pressing a button and then rushing to the door - in the regular levels, at least. The switching of the characters is very quick and fluid - you can do stuff like sneak up on a ranged enemy as the Warrior with your shield raised up, switch to the Thief to fire your own arrow and after you released your arrow, switch back to the Warrior and raise the shield to block the incoming shot from the enemy. Finally, the Thief has a ranged bow attack and can grapple onto wooden surfaces and swing across chasms. The Warrior has only melee attacks, but he can block with a shield. The Wizard is defenseless, but he can create objects, like boxes and levitate them. This causes you to control either of the three and being able to switch between them on the fly. The game starts with a Thief, Warrior, and Wizard finding an artifact, the Trine, which binds their souls together. It is a nice, physics-based action platformer that's quite straightforward. Now that I finished it (roughly 15 hours for all collectibles) I really liked it! I remember trying it out a while ago and being put off by the side-scrolling 3D art style, that just did not sit well with me. I was looking through my rather large collection of unplayed Humble Bundle games and downloaded Trine on a whim.
